Launch your hunt the right way in 3 steps

A successful hunt is decided before the first message goes out. It launches in 3 steps, in this order: scope, check the pool, validate the score. Skipping a step often costs several weeks.

The golden rule: a criterion must check a real track record, not whether a word appears on the profile.

Step 1 — Scope the role (45 min, with the hiring manager)

The hiring manager is in the room: they settle the job-specific questions.

Prepare before the session:

  • the job description;
  • 2 or 3 LinkedIn profiles of candidates you would hire tomorrow;
  • the list of people already contacted elsewhere, so they aren't approached twice.

Decide together:

  • the one deal-breaker criterion (e.g. "has already led projects from X to Y"), described as an experience, not a keyword;
  • the exact job titles used at your competitors, without acronyms;
  • what you exclude (titles, industries, backgrounds);
  • the target companies: to favour, or to require? Requiring them can divide the pool by five;
  • what can't be seen on LinkedIn (management, contract type, country): you'll ask in the first message;
  • the realistic number of profiles in this market.

You get a written recap within 24 hours: a simple "OK" by reply is enough. Then create the hunt:

  1. Click Hunts.
  2. Click + (New hunt), right next to it.
  3. Describe the role in a few sentences, or attach the job description.
  4. Click Create your hunt.

Step 2 — Check the pool (before tuning the score)

Make sure the right profiles are there. In the Agent tab, Umamy shows you profiles under Selected profiles:

  • Click Review profiles and go through 20 to 30 profiles without looking at the score.
  • For each one: Approve or Reject (marker 1), then give Umamy a short reason in the conversation.
  • You need at least 5 approved profiles to move to step 3.

If your rejections all say "wrong job", it's the targeting that needs fixing, not the score.

Step 3 — Validate the score

Criteria and their weights are set on the Scorecard card in the Agent tab. Check:

  1. The criteria: only one deal-breaker, everything else counts in the score, and each one can be checked on a LinkedIn profile.
  2. The criterion that matters most for the job is at the top.
  3. Its weight is the highest.

Edit Scorecard: criteria and weights

The score is right when it reproduces your decisions:

  1. Open the Candidates tab.
  2. Look at the Score column: your approved profiles at the top, your rejections at the bottom.

Messages go out when these 4 points are checked:

  • the scoping recap is confirmed;
  • the pool has at least 5 approved profiles;
  • the score ranks your approved profiles at the top;
  • a first check-in is booked 5 days after launch, to adjust quickly.
